Councils collaborate to promote ‘Our Shared Heritage’

Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Council and North Warwickshire Borough Council are delighted to announce the launch of their new joint heritage leaflet – 'Our Shared Heritage'.

The two neighbouring boroughs have come together in an initiative to promote the history of the area and encourage people to explore and find out more about its influential past. The fold-out leaflet includes a map to help visitors navigate themselves around the area and highlights a selection of locations that can be visited today.

The leaflet takes visitors on a fascinating journey through history, drawing out some of the key people and places that have shaped what we see today. The journey begins with the Romans and explains how their presence is still evident today through its landscape and road network. It then moves on to the area's Royal connections with the Grey family, its location as the birthplace of the Tudor Dynasty and its home to the founder of the Quaker religion. It also looks at the areas industrial heritage and the importance of the many industries that have provided employment for so many generations of local people.

Finally, it showcases an array of 'trailblazers' whose lives and achievements are nationally and internationally renowned. From the likes of poet and playwright Michael Drayton, who was born in 1563, Mary Ann Evans (George Eliot) who was born in 1819, and Ada Lovelace, who was born in 1815, to the more recent achievements of Andy Green, who set the World land speed record in 1997 and Horiba Mira, which is Europe's most advanced transport technology site. The area really has played host to some amazing people and businesses.

Deputy Leader of Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Council Councillor David Bill said: "The council is very mindful of the heritage in the borough and beyond and so we are delighted to be collaborating with North Warwickshire Borough Council with the launch of this new leaflet.

"This leaflet recognises the many famous writers, inventors, designer's and highlights the stories, and places which have influenced and determined the towns and communities we live in today."

Leader of North Warwickshire Borough Council Councillor David Wright said, "This is a fantastic piece of collaborative work and so pleasing to see the heritage of Borough being commemorated in such a positive way that encourages people to get out and explore their local area."
