Garden Waste Service suspended for one week
Garden waste collections (brown lidded bin) in Hinckley and Bosworth are to be suspended for one week as a result of rising numbers of waste drivers and crew told to self-isolate by NHS Test and Trace and the national shortage of HGV driver's.
The garden waste service will be suspended from tomorrow Friday 23 July to Friday 30 July inclusive.
It is hoped the move will ensure that all residential (black bin) and recycling (blue lidded bins) rounds will be completed in full as normal. Similar decisions are being taken by councils across the country faced with a similar position.
Bill Crooks, the Borough Council's Executive Member for Street Scene Services, said: "Unfortunately a significant number of our waste collection crews have received notification from the NHS test and trace service to self-isolate, this alongside isolation due to family members contracting coronavirus means that it will not be possible to deploy a full collection service.
"This is not a decision taken lightly and those affected will have their garden service extended by one week to cover this disruption. These are exceptional circumstances and I would like to thank residents for their patience."
